This flat platelet count (250 Mon - 245 Thurs) is very good news! Especially because I was feeling a little icky... its very cold and gross in NYC, and have a slight cold. It means that my body, even under the stress of this weather and a slight infection, was able to either:
a-maintain some stability, with the assistance of a lowered med level
or
b- GROW some platelets to bring the # back up after a dip (though un-recorded)
This is all good news! The whole goal of my current treatment is to:
(1)correct any immediate threat to survival (Plasma Pheresis in the hospital, only necessary if my platelets drop below 150)
(2)blast out the malfunction (Rituxan), and
(3)slowly taper down the auto-immune suppressive medications (Prednisone)
... do this, test frequently & monitor all my levels, then as time goes by with no big platelet dips & my meds are reduced, my body should start to take over for itself again and operate without the clotting malfunction. When I can do that with no medicine for a certain amount of time, then I am declared in official remission! Getting closer!!
